About

DESINE Lab brings design thinking, practices and outcomes together with innovation and entrepreneurship to address issues of global poverty and social and environmental injustice, while working collaboratively with target populations to facilitate community-driven social and economic development.

This January, a group of 20 students from the Rhode Island School of Design are spending their Winter semester in Sri Lanka. This team, led by DESINE Lab’s founder, Elizabeth Dean Hermann, is composed of architects, industrial designers and fine artists, working to compile a resource for redeveloping the country in the aftermath of its recent civil war. The project is the initial phase of a long-term ambition to rebuild communities affected by the war–particularly the northern region of the island.

This blog is dedicated to documenting the research and day to day activities of the Northern Visions Sri Lanka team.
